In order to align our meditation practices with our most empowering sources of motivation, and to extend our efforts into the world after we sit, it is vital to pay close attention to how we begin and end our meditation sessions. Therefore, it is helpful to have a simple, consistent “ritual” to give structure to each sit.
The following is a suggested routine followed by some of us in our virtual sangha. It is a synthesis of many similar forms practiced in contemplative communities around the world – especially Tibetan Mahamudra, Zen Silent Illumination and Christian contemplative prayer. Adopt or adapt it in a way that makes it useful and meaningful to you.
